New Blog
Cleaning Up The Place
I decided to do a little remodeling on the blog and changed up a few things here and there. Nothing major, just slimmed up the page, created a new About section, and a couple other small touch ups. I appreciate everyone’s patience while I go back and resize some of the larger images and fix a few rough spots in previous posts. Rather than putting the whole blog down, I just put all my posts on private and will republish each one as they’re updated. Apologies for any inconvenience, but it shouldn’t be long before posts are public again. And as always, thanks for stopping by.
Dwell On Design 2009
Dwell on Design was a three day exhibition for modern home enthusiasts. There were guest speakers and plenty of booths displaying various household items to awe and inspire. Dwell on Design 2009 was a very informative, up close, and personal experience for anyone fond of the modern lifestyle.
I like modern architecture. There is something about the absence of the unnecessarily ornate that draws me in. I believe a modern environment can help eliminate mental clutter that tends to hinder and distract creative process. I’d love to work and live in a modern space at some point.

Dwell is a magazine about modern homes and living. I’ve been subscribing since back when they printed quotes on the spine. One of my favorites was, “Kids don’t have to be told, they instinctively see the possibilities.” by Satyendra Pakhale.

Official.

We were some of the first people to arrive on Saturday, it was nice not having to deal with the crowd just yet.

Pretty, pretty.

Abstract monster.

It’s not often you come across cardboard that’s as intricate as these custom lamp shades. I’m not sure I’d deck my house out with one, but kudos to this way of thinking.

Green extreme. You can plant this card.

This stuff was pretty cool too. The white you see on the wall is a dry erase surface, but it’s not a board. It’s actually special paint applied to a blue wall. Once dry, it becomes a dry erase surface that you can write and draw on with any dry erase marker. I thought this would be great for kids and useful for office meetings. Staff from Dwell Magazine was filming those who contributed something to the wall. I did draw a little something something, but didn’t have anything epiphanous to say at the time, so I ninjastically hid from the video lens.

Modern rainforest.

Splash.

Rotatable shower head. Four heads in one.

Closer view.

Notice the name at the top of the (left) poster? It’s not me lol. I’ve actually seen this particular Kirby’s work before. I dig his work. It still made me look twice when I saw it though.

Move-in ready.

Holey cow.

This shed was something I’ve wanted to see for a while. They’re made by Modern-Shed. I had always been curious as to how spacious they felt inside. It wasn’t bad at all. With the right furniture, this shed could totally work as a small studio.

One of Tesla’s sleek electric cars.

My lamp-in-a-box babe. It’s my-lamp-in-a-box. Ooh, my-lamp-in-a-box girl”
In all seriousness, pretty cool. Simple lamps, endless combinations.

I remember a couple skate shops that used to sport these skateboard deck chairs. Brings back memories.

You could walk in this like a hamster wheel and get to any part of the house without ever getting off the sofa. The possibilities.

These pillows are made out of recycled water bottles.

Over at the Astek Inc. booth, a rep told me you can submit your own design and they can create custom wallpaper from it. The first thing I thought was custom designed backdrops for shoots.

One of the classic modern hybrid shacks at the exhibition. This thing was pretty shabby chic for modern, but it made great use of a small interior. It had a living space, kitchen, and bathroom. Very tidy.

The wood floor was actually salvaged from a bowling center that got tore down. On the right, I caught Nadia prettying up the meditation pod.
Well that about wraps up this post for Dwell on Design 2009. I hope you enjoyed the pics and feel like you got a little sneak peek if you weren’t there. I will more than likely attend again next year and this time I will be much more prepared to network. It was amusing how many vendors inquired about my photography, since I was holding a big camera. I was not expecting that. Who knows, I may be shooting modern homes one day. Thanks for stopping by and have a good one everybody.
Pacific Highway

Some frames from a nice little beach in Carlsbad. Very quiet, a lot of squirrels, and people parked for lunch. The cliffs had an awesome view of the pacific ocean and you can walk down to the sand below. Apparently, it’s quite the spot for locals and tourists.
In other news..

I designed the new Colorati banners on theblogisfound.com, which is the blog of world famous wedding photographers, Nate and Jaclyn Kaiser. These two are really great at what they do and have inspired more than many photographers. I actually saw Nate last week, we exchanged hello’s and intros. He seemed like a cool guy.
